Educational Background

Ohere Sadiku Abubakar’s educational journey began in 1975 at St. Andrew’s School, Okene. He continued his secondary education at Lennon Memorial College, Ageva in 1979. Later, he obtained an Ordinary National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, and pursued a Higher National Diploma at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah in 1992. He holds a master’s degree in Mining Engineering (M.Eng.) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

Career

Ohere Sadiku joined the Federal Civil service in 1996. Over a span of approximately 20 years, he worked in various roles, starting as a field engineer and gradually rising to the management level in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

In 2016, he entered politics and took a hiatus from his civil service career to serve under the New Direction Government of Governor Yahaya Bello. From January 2016 to August 2019, he served as a Special Adviser overseeing the affairs of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Kogi State. In 2019, he was appointed as the Honorable Commissioner for the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, holding the same responsibilities, until December 2019.

In January 2020, at the beginning of Governor Yahaya Bello’s second term, he was re-appointed as the Honorable Commissioner for Works and Housing. He voluntarily resigned from this position on 16 April 2022, in pursuit of his aspirations to contest for Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the Federal Legislature.

In the 2023 Kogi Central Senatorial Election, Ohere Sadiku Abubakar emerged victorious, defeating his major opponent, Natasha Akpoti, and assuming office as the Senator for Kogi Central, but the Kogi Election Petitions Tribunal announced on Wednesday September 2023 that Natasha Akpoti-Uduagan, the candidate from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), had emerged as the winner in the February election, defeating him the (APC) candidate.
