Prior to his appointment as Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu had a significant political presence in Kogi State. He was a gubernatorial aspirant in the state. As a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Audu contested as an aspirant in the governorship primaries of the Kogi State chapter of the party.
In August 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Shuaibu Audu as the Minister of Steel Development, marking a significant milestone in his political career. Additionally, he declared his intention to run in the November 2023 Kogi State gubernatorial election under the APC.
