Educational Background
Dapo Abiodun attended Christ’s School Ado Ekiti (1972), St. Joseph’s College, Ondo (1977), and Ondo High School (1978). He pursued Civil Engineering at the University of Ife, graduating in 1986. Later, he earned a BBA in Accounting from Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, Georgia.
Career
Dapo Abiodun embarked on his professional journey as a Cost Accountant at Glock Inc. in the USA (1989-1991). Upon returning to Nigeria, he delved into entrepreneurship, chairing various ventures like Crestar Hydrocarbons Limited, OMS-Heyden Exploration and Production Limited, Heyden Petroleum Ltd (HPL), Alarmnet, Innovative Ventures Limited, and First Power Limited. From 2012 to 2019, he chaired the Depot and Petroleum Product Marketers’ Association (DAPPMA).

Abiodun’s political career commenced in 1998, winning the Ogun East Senatorial seat on the platform of the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party. However, this victory was thwarted due to the aborted third republic. Subsequently joining the Peoples Democratic Party in 1999, he contested the governorship primaries in Ogun State in 2002, emerging as the runner-up.
In the 2015 general elections, representing the APC for Ogun East Senatorial District, he was unsuccessful. In 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him as the Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
In 2019, Abiodun contested and won the APC governorship ticket in Ogun State, securing victory in the general elections and becoming the 5th elected Governor of Ogun State. He won in 12 of the 20 local government areas. Upon assuming office, he initiated the “Building Our Future Together Agenda” anchored on Five Development Pillars: I.S.E.Y.A (Infrastructure, Social well-being and welfare, Education, Youth empowerment and job creation, and Agriculture).

In 2023, Abiodun released 49 prison inmates who had served over 20 years, showing compassion towards the elderly or those with health problems. Additionally, he commuted the death sentences for 3 prisoners to life imprisonment.
On March 8, 2023, he was re-elected as governor under the APC during the Ogun State gubernatorial election, defeating candidates from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In January 2024, the Supreme Court upheld the election of Dapo Abiodun in the 2023 general election.

Personal Life
Dapo Abiodun is married to his wife, Bamidele Abiodun and they have five children.
Tragically, in 2017, their 25-year-old son, Gbemiga Abiodun (DJ Olu), was found dead with a friend. In October 2023, Abiodun established a scholarship for 550 students in memory of his son.
