Suresh Gopi was born on June 26, 1958, in Alapuzha, Kerala, India, to K. Gopinathan Pillai, a film distributor, and V. Gnanalekshmi Amma. He is their eldest son. His parents originally hailed from Kollam, and during his early years, the family relocated to his father’s ancestral home in Kollam, where he was raised. Suresh Gopi has three younger brothers: Subhash Gopi, and the twins Sunil Gopi and Sanil Gopi.

On February 8, 1990, Suresh Gopi married Radhika Nair, who is the granddaughter of actress Aranmula Ponnamma. Together, they have five children: Lakshmi Suresh, Gokul Suresh, Bhagya Suresh, Bhavni Suresh, and Madhav Suresh. Tragically, their daughter Lakshmi passed away in a car accident when she was just one-and-a-half years old.
