Getachew Reda Kahsay born June 1974 is a prominent Ethiopian politician who has been serving as the Chief Administrator of the Interim Regional Administration of Tigray since his appointment by the Office of the Ethiopian Prime Minister on 23 March 2023. Prior to this role, Getachew was a close advisor to Debretsion Gebremichael, the former president of the Tigray Region.

Educational Background

Getachew earned his Bachelor of Laws degree from Addis Ababa University’s School of Law. He later pursued advanced studies, obtaining a Master of Laws degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, United States, between 2001 and 2002. Before transitioning into government service, he worked as a professor of law at Mekelle University, a key institution in the Tigray Region.

Getachew Reda has held various significant roles in Ethiopian politics and governance. From 2012 to 2016, he served as the Minister of Government Communications Affairs under Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn.

Following this role, he became a leading figure in the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), serving as both an executive committee member and the party’s spokesperson from 2020.
