Félix Tshisekedi’s education was affected by his family’s political struggles. As a young man, he lived a comfortable life in Kinshasa until his father openly opposed President Mobutu Sese Seko.

On 19 May 2024, his government faced a failed coup attempt, led by a group that included opposition figure Christian Malanga. The incident resulted in six deaths, including Malanga.
