DR POLYCARP EMENIKE BIOGRAPHY

Born on November 28, 1955, in Nanka, Orumba North LGA, Anambra State, Emenike grew up in a modest household. His education was significantly disrupted by the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970). Due to financial constraints, he was unable to attend secondary school immediately after the war.
In 1971, he moved to Onitsha to serve as an office boy and house help for his maternal uncle, a lawyer. During this time, he saved his meager earnings—approximately 300 Naira over two years—which he used as seed capital to start a small business selling rubber slippers in 1975.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

Polycarp enrolled at Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School in Lagos at age 32, wearing a school uniform alongside much younger students. Earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (1997) at age 42, followed by a Master’s degree in Marketing (1999).
He Obtained a Doctorate in International Business Management from the International School of Management (ISM) in Paris (2012). He is an alumnus of both the Lagos Business School and Harvard Business School. He was appointed a Visiting Professor of Entrepreneurship at age 66.
CAREER

From his humble start in trade, he built NEROS Pharmaceuticals into one of Nigeria’s leading indigenous pharmaceutical firms, with a major manufacturing facility in Sango Ota, Ogun State. His life was transformed by the writings of Napoleon Hill, particularly Think and Grow Rich. eventually became the only non-U.S. citizen to serve on the Board of Trustees of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and is the Foundation’s sole representative in Africa.
A prolific writer, Emenike has authored over 20 books. To mark his 70th birthday in late 2025, he launched seven new books, including titles like How to Be a Polymath and Igbo Apprenticeship (Nwaboi) System.
CONTROVERSIES

While Dr. Emenike’s professional record is largely seen as exemplary, his business life has involved high-stakes international risks. He famously embarked on a “suicidal mission” to Vietnam in the 1980s with only $150 to seek business breakthroughs, during which he was harassed by immigration officials for insufficient funds. This journey, however, ultimately led him to discover Artesunate, which became a cornerstone of his pharmaceutical success.
