Ikechukwu Ezeugwu’s most significant public controversy erupted in 2025 when he resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform under which he had served for twelve years, and used his resignation letter to make a stinging indictment of the party’s internal culture.
In his resignation letter addressed to his PDP Ward Chairman in Udenu, Ezeugwu alleged that the party had betrayed its founding values, saying that merit was “frequently sacrificed on the altar of mediocrity and deceit.” He accused the party leadership of making promises they did not keep, and suggested he had been deceived into undertaking constituency projects in exchange for assurances of support that were ultimately withdrawn. The most biting response came from Professor Victor Nnam, a former Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development in Enugu State, who dismissed Ezeugwu’s grievances as driven by personal frustration rather than principle. Nnam further questioned Ezeugwu’s legislative legacy, claiming that across twelve years in the state assembly, his primary constituency project was the construction of just two bus stops in Udenu Local Government Area.
