Biography of Babagana Zulum

Babagana Umara Zulum is a Nigerian Professor of Engineering, politician and the 21st governor of Borno state. He was born on 26th August,1969 in Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State.

Educational Background

Babagana Umara Zulum obtained his First School Leaving Certificate from Mafa Primary School in 1980. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Monguno where he obtained his Wesr African Secondary School Certificate in 1985.

Babagana Zulum obtained a degree in Agriculture Engineering from the University of Maiduguri.

In 1997, Zulum proceeded for a Masters degree in Agriculture Engineering from the University of Ibadan.

He obtained a Doctorate degree in Soil and Water Engineering from the University of Maiduguri in 2009.

Career

After graduation from School, Babagana Zulum was posted to Kastina State Polytechnicfor his compulsory Youth Service program.

In 1989, Babagana Zulum was employed as Assistant Technical Officer by the Borno State Civil Service to work in the state’s Ministry of Agriculture.

In 1990, he secured a job as Senior Field Overseer at the Borno State Unified Local Government Service and was later promoted to Principal Water Engineer.

In 2000, Babagana Zulum was employed as an Assistant Lecturer with the University of Maiduguri where he rose to the position of a professor.

While working with University of Maiduguri, Babagana Zulum served as the Deputy Dean and Acting Dean, Faculty of Engineering in 2010 and 2011 respectively.

In 2011, he was appointed the Rector of Ramat Polytechnic while retaining his position as a lecturer with University of Maiduguri.

In 2015, Babagana Zulum was appointed the Honorable Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement by Gov Kashim Shettima of Borno State.

While serving as Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, Zulum rebuilt substantial parts of the ravaged communities across Borno state

In 2018, he picked up nomination form to run for Borno State Governor under the platform of All Progressive Congress (APC).

On October 1 2018, Babagana Zulum won the APC primaries and became the party flag bearer ahead of the 2019 gubernatorial elections. He was elected as Borno State Governor after securing a total of 1175440 votes.

He was sworn in as Borno State Governor on 29 May, 2019.
