Controversies

In November 2020, Alhaji Mahdi Shehu was arrested on order of the Inspector General of Police for defamation after he accused the Kastina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari; Secretary to the Katsina State Government, Alh. Mustapha Inuwa; other top government officials and contractors, working with the State Government of allegedly misappropriation of funds.

He was released after a Federal High Court in Abuja declared the arrest of Alhaji Shehu unconstitutional. The court further requested that Alhaji Shehu be paid N5 million compensation.

In February 2021, Alhaji Shehu was rearrested by the Nigeria. police despite not paying the N5million compensation.
