Educational Background
Hadiza Bala Usman attended Ahmadu Bello University staff school for primary and secondary education. She proceeded to obtain a degree in Business Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University in the year 2000.
In 2009, Hadiza Bala Usman obtained a masters degree in development studies from the University of Leeds.
Career
Hadiza Bala Usman worked as a research assistant at the Centre for Democratic Development and Research Training in Zaria in 1999.
Between July 2000 and August 2004, she worked as an enterprise officer at the Bureau of Public Enterprises.
In October 2004, Hadiza Bala Usman was hired to work as a special assistant to the Minister on project implementation at the UNDP for the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
In 2011, she contested to represent Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency at the National Assembly under the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) but lost her election bid.
Hadiza Bala Usman joined the Good Governance Group as the director of strategy from 2011 to 2015.
In 2014, Hadiza Bala Usman cofounded the Bring Back Our Girls Group, a non governmental organization calling for the release of Chiboy School girls kidnapped in 2014 by Boko Haram.
In 2015, she was appointed the Chief of Staff to the Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. She was later appointed the Managing Director of the Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) by President Buhari in July 2016. She was reappointed into the same office in January 2021.
Hadiza Bala Usman was suspended as the Managing Director of Nigeria Port Authority in May 2021. Also, an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to investigate the Management of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

Personal life
Hadiza Bala Usman was married to economic analyst Tanimu Yakubu Kurfi. She is the daughter of Yusufu Bala Usman and the great grand daughter of Abdullahi Bayero, the 10th Emir of Kano. Her grand father was the Durbin Katsina and her grand uncle was Usman Nagogo the Emir of Katsina. She is from the Sullubawa clan.
