Educational Background
Bello Matawalle attended Maradun Township Primary School and Yaba College of Technology. He is a graduate of Thames Valley University, London.
Career
Bello Matawalle started his career as a teacher at Government Girls College Moriki and Kwatarkoshi before joining the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
In 1998, Bello Matawalle joined politics. He ran for a seat at the Zamfara State House of Assembly under the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) and won. He was appointed the Zamfara State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in 1999.

In 2003, Bello Matawalle ran to represent Bakura/ Maradun under the platform of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He was elected in the 2003 general election.
Matawalle was elected for a second term in office in 2007 under the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but he later decamped to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2011, Bello Matawalle was elected for a third term in office under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2015, He lost his re-election bid to Muktar Idris, of the All Progressive Congress (APC). Bello Matawalle polled polled 189,452 in the March polls as against the 534,541 votes for Muktar Idris.
In 2018, Bello Matawalle picked nomination form to run Zamfara State Governor under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He won the party primaries and was elected the governor of Zamfara State after the Supreme Court nullified votes cast for the APC in the 2019 election.
Matawalle reportedly decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressive Congress (APC) in June 2021.
Personal life
Bello Matawalle is married to four wives with children. His first wife Hajia Aisha Bello- Matawalle served as the First Lady of Zamfara State.
