Senator Hassan Gusau started his career as a politician in 1999. He served as the Commissioner for Health, Commerce, Environment, Water Resources, Land & Housing, local government and chieftaincy affairs of Zamfara State.

In 2007, Senator Hassan Gusau was elected to represent Zamfara Central in the Nigerian senate.
