In 2003, Peter Obi contested for Anambra state governor under the platform of the All Progressive Grand Alliance(APGA). Though Chris Ngige was declared the winner, he was later declared the winner of the election in 2006.
In 2010, Peter Obi ran for a second term in office under the same party and won his second term in office.
Upon expiration of his tenure in 2014, he was appointed the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC by President Jonathan.
In 2019, Peter Obi was the running mate/ Vice Presidential candidate of Atiku Abubakar under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2022, Peter Obi declared run for president under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). However, he withdrew before the party primaries and decamped to Labour Party (LP).
