Educational Background

Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Bayero University in Kano, Kano State. Prior to that, he attended Kaduna Polytechnic in Kaduna, where he obtained a National Diploma in Accountancy. He further pursued his studies at Bayero University, obtaining an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy and Administration.

Career

Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel has had a diverse and extensive career in both public service and politics. Prior to entering politics, Gumel served in various capacities. He worked as the deputy headmaster of Gumel Gabas Primary School in Gumel, Jigawa State from 1969 to 1971. He also worked as a stenographer at Kano State Home Affairs in Kano State in 1972.

Gumel then served as a senior accountant at the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in Kano State from 1976 to 1979. He later worked as the chief accountant at the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) National Headquarters in Lagos from 1979 to 1983. Additionally, he served as a board member at the Nigeria Enterprises Promotion Council from 1980 to 1983, the Nigeria Securities and Exchange Commission in 1983, and the Kano State Sports Councils from 1980 to 1983.

Gumel’s passion for serving his people led him to enter politics. In 1999, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Gumel Federal Constituency, which covered Gumel, Maitagari, Sule Tankarkar, and Gagarawa Local Government Areas. During his time in the House, he served as the chairman of the House Committee on Special Duties from 1999 to 2000 and the chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs from 2001 to 2003.

In 2003, Gumel was appointed as the Special Adviser to the then Honourable Speaker, Aminu Bello Masari, on special assignments, a position he held until 2007. Gumel’s political journey continued when he was elected as a senator representing the Jigawa North West Senatorial District in 2015 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). During his tenure in the 8th National Assembly, he served as the chairman of the Senate Committee on States and Local Government. Presently President Tinubu also appointed Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel, as a special adviser, culture and entertainment economy on national matters.
