He was appointed the minister for Information and Culture by Military Head of State Ibrahim Babangida. Tony Momoh was born on 27th April 1939 in Auchi, Edo State to King Momoh I of Auchi.

Educational Background
Tony Momoh attended Government School Auchi and Anglican School Okpe. He proceeded to Provincial Teachers Training College, Abudu, Edo State and Government Teachers College, Abraka, Delta State.

In 1966, Tony Momoh obtained a degree in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).
He obtained an LLB in law from the University of Lagos. He went to Nigerian Law School Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in June 1975.
Career
Tony Momoh worked as the Pupil Teacher at the Anglican School, Auchi in 1955. Between 1958 and 1959, he was the Headmaster at the Anglican School, Ubuneke, Ivbiaro, Owan Local Government.

In 1962, he was employed as a Sub editor of Daily Times News Paper. He rose in rank to become the editor and subsequently the deputy general manager between 1976 and 1980.
Tony Momoh was the editor of Newswatch when Dele Giwa published what was classified information. Dele Giwa was accused of anti-government activities and insurrection on 17th October , 1986. He was killed in a letter bomb on 19 October 1986.
Between 1984 and 1986, Tony Momoh was the General manager of Times.
In 1986, General Ibrahim Babangida appointed Tony Momoh as the the Minister for Information and Culture. While serving as the Minister for information, he was the Chairman of the African Conference of Information Ministers from 1988 to 1990.

In 1990, Momoh was dismissed replaced him by Alex Akinyele.
Momoh was the Chairman of the board of directors of Nigerian Airways between 1991 and 1993. He served concurrently as Member of the Edo State Economic Advisory Committee and the Nigerian Press Council.
In 1996. Momoh was appointed as one of the directors of the Newswatch magazine.
In 1999, he was the Director of the Alex Ekwueme Presidential Campaign Organization and the chairman screening and conduct of PDP Gubnetorial and State House of Assembly primaries in Kano.
Momoh was the chairman, Media and Publicity of the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) Campaign Organisation and the Chairman of the Political Committee of the Muhammadu Buhari Organisation.
Momoh was appointed the National Chairman of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Buba Galadima as the National Secretary in 2011.
After the Merger of CPC, ACN, ANPP and other parties to form All Progressive Congress, Tony Momoh became a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
