Career
Hassan Mohammad Gusau joined politics in 1999. He was appointed the Commissioner for Health by Ahmad Sani Yarima.
He also served as the Commissioner for Commerce, Commissioner for Environment, Commissioner for Water Resources, Commissioner for Land and Housing and Commissioner for local government and chieftaincy between 1999 and 2007.
In 2007, Hassan Mohammad Gusau picked nomination form to be elected as the senator representing Zamfara Central in the 8th Assembly under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He won the party primaries and was elected a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 8th Assembly.
In 2011, Sen. Gusau was elected for a second term in office under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He served as the Chairman Senate committee on Ecology and climate change in the 9th Assembly.
