Educational Background
Magdalena Andersson studied social sciences at the Cathedral School in Uppsala graduating top of her class. She studied at the Stockholm School of Economics where she obtained a Masters degree in economics.
She is an alumnus of Institute of Advanced Studies in Vienna and Harvard University
Career
Magdalena Andersson joined the Social Democratic Youth League (SSU) in 1983 as a student and served as the president of the Uppsala section of SSU.

Magdalena Andersson worked as a doctoral student in economics at the Stockholm School of Economics between 1992 to 1995.
In 1996, She was employed at the Prime Ministers office to work as a political adviser to Göran Persson. She was later appointed as the Director of Planning in 1998.
Magdalena Andersson was employed as the Secretary of state in the Ministry of Finance in 2004 but left in 2006 to become a political adviser, this time to Opposition Leader Mona Sahlin in 2007.
In 2009, Magdalena Andersson was appointed the Chief Director of the Swedish Tax Agency by the Swedish government.
Magdalena Andersson resigned as the Chief Director of the Swedish Tax Agency after she was adopted as the Social Democratic candidate ahead of the 2014 general election.

She was elected as a member of Riksdag and appointed as the Minister for Finance by Stefan Löfven. She was reappointed to the same position in 2018.
In 2020, Magdalena Andersson was appointed to chair the International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC), the primary policy advisory committee of the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She was the first woman to hold such position and the first European in over a decade.
In September 2021, Magdalena Andersson was appointed the leader of the Social Democratic Party Congress.
On November 24, 2021, Magdalena Andersson was elected as the new Prime Minister of Sweden and the first female to be elected as Swedish Prime Minister.

However, Andersson’s budget was defeated in the Riksdag. The opposition budget passed instead. The right-wing Sweden Democrats, the Green Party pulled out of the coalition that elected Andersson. This prompted Andersson to resign few hours to her swearing in.
