Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was born on 27th October, 1967 in Madagali, Adamawa state. His father was a soldier and he had five siblings. He is the current governor of Adamawa state. He was the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assemby before he was elected as governor in the 2019 gubernatorial election.

Educational Background

Umaru Fintiri attended Central Primary School, Gulak where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1981.

He proceeded to Government Day School, Gulak and later to Government Secondary School Michika where he obtained his SSCE certificate in 1986.

In 1992, Umaru Fintiri graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Maiduguri. He obtained a Post Graduate Degree (PGD) in Policy and Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri in 2004.

Career

Umaru Fintiri was a member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly. He has served as the Minority Whip from 2007 till 2011.

After he was re-elected to represent Magadali in the Adamawa state House of Assembly, Fintiri was the deputy Speaker and subsequently the Majority Leader of the Adamawa state House of Assembly.

In 2014, Fintiri was elected the Speaker of the Adamawa state House of Assembly.

Following the impeachment of Admiral Murtala Nyako he became the acting governor of Adamawa state in July 2014. In October 2014, he handed over to Bala James Ngilari.

However, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri beat Bindow Umaru Jibrilla to be elected as Adamawa state Governor. Fintiri was declared winner of the election after having secured 376,552 votes to defeat incumbent Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 336,386 votes.
