Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri was born on 27th October, 1967. His father was a soldier and he had five siblings. He is the current governor of Adamawa state. He was the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assemby before he was elected as governor in the 2019 gubernatorial election.
Following the impeachment of Admiral Murtala Nyako he became the acting governor of Adamawa state in July 2014. In October 2014, he handed over to Bala James Ngilari.
However, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri beat Bindow Umaru Jibrilla to be elected as Adamawa state Governor. Fintiri was declared winner of the election after having secured 376,552 votes to defeat incumbent Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 336,386 votes
