Career and Records
Due to Okagbare’s athletic physique, she was encouraged to embrace sports. She played football as a teenager while in high school.
In 2004, she picked interest in track and field sports, participating in long jumps , triple jumps and high jumps in national school competition. She won the bronze medal in the 2004 Nigerian National Sports Festival.

Blessing Okagbare participated in the qualifying round of the 2006 World Junior Championships in Athletics.
During the 2007 trials for the 8th All African Games, Okagbare established a Nigerian record of 14.13 metres in the triple jump. She was picked as one of the athletes for the 8th All African game. Okagbare won the silver medal in the the long jump but finished fourth in the triple jump.
In 2008, Blessing Okagbare participated in the Summer Olympics in Beijing where she won the bronze medal in the women’s long jump competition.
She was selected to participate in the 2009 World Championships in Athletics but she never started 100m race or long jump.
She participated in the NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship for University of Texas at El Paso.
In 2010, Blessing Okagbare won the gold medal in the long jump and 100m race category of the African championship. She also won a gold medal in the 4×100 m women’s relay team in the competition.

In 2011, she won three medals in the All African games in Maputo, Mozambique and the new continental medals at the 2012 African Championships in Porto-Novo.
In 2013, Okagbare set a world record time of 22.31 seconds in 200m race in Walnut, California, USA. She also set a new African record of 10.86 s in her 100 m race.
Okagbare won a silver medal in the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.
Okagbare became the fourth woman to win both 100m and 200m race in the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also broke the games record with a time of 10.85s in 100m.
In 2015, she won the 2x400m relay race in the 2015 World Relays and African Games.
In 2016, Blessing Okagbare participated in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games but could not win any medal in the competition.
Okagbare became the World Guinness record holder of the fastest athlete ahead of the previous record holder Usain Bolt.
