Mohammadu Gambo Jimeta is a Nigerian Police Officer and the 7th Inspector General of Police. He was a National SecurityAdviser to former military Heads of State Ibrahim Babangida. Gambo Jimeta was born on 15 April 1937.

Educational Background
Gambo Jimeta started his basic education at Jimeta Elementary School in 1947. He proceeded to Yola Middle School where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1955.

Jimeta studied at Bauchi Provincial Secondary School and then to Government College Keffi where he obtained his SSCE in 1959.
In 1959, Gambo Jimeta attended Nigerian Police College Kaduna and then Police College Lagos.
He attended Detective Training School, Wakefield, UK and Bramhill Police College UK in 1962 and 1963 respectively.
Jimeta attended International Police Academy, Washington DC, USA and National Police Academy, Cairo, Egypt in 1980.

Career
Gambo Jimeta started his career as a Cadet sub-Inspector. He was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1963.
In 1967, he was promoted to a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and later to a Superintendent of Police (SP) in 1969.
Gambo Jimeta became a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in 1972. He was promoted to an Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1974 and a Commissioner of Police in 1977.
Gambo Jimeta was a Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.
In 1982, Gambo Jimeta was promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General if Police (AIG). He was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division, Alagbon Close, Lagos.

In 1984, he was promoted to the rank of a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). He was appointed the Inspector General of Police by Ibrahim Babangida in 1986.
President Jonathan appointed Gambo Jimeta to serve as a member of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy in 2011.
Death
On 21st December 2021, Gambo Jimeta died at the age of 83.
