Chinedu Okoli popularly known as Flavour is a Nigerian musician, songwriter, instrumentalist and producer. He gained popularity for his hit single “Nwa Baby” which gained him global recognition. Flavour was born on 23 November 1983 in Enugu State,Nigeria.

Flavour has his basic education in Enugu where he was raised. He attended College of the Immaculate Conception (CIC).

He proceeded to University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).

Career and Musics

Flavour started his career as a musician at a very young age. At 13 Flavour was a drummer for his church choir in Enugu. His talent gained him Favour and he was introduced to Chris I. Ordor, the CEO of SoundCity Communications by his pastor.

In 1996, he was awarded scholarship to study music at Soundcity Communications. Flavour became a professional drummer.

In 1999, he digressed into playing keyboards while singing as a backup singer for other musicians in Soundcity.

In 2002, Flavour emerged in the Nigerian music industry as a drummer and pianist for a local Enugu band. He started playing at City Center, Enugu where he was inspired to aspire greater height.

In 2005, Flavour released his debut album “N’Abania”. The album which was predominantly popular in the eastern part of Nigeria was produced by Obaino Music. The album featured popular Nigerian rapper Nigga Raw.

In 2010, he released his second album “Uplifted”. The album had wider coverage and featured popular Nigerian musicians like Tiwa Savage.

While in Enugu, Flavour learnt music production from Dekumzy, Isi Charles and Nnachie. He launched his own record label 2nite Entertainment years later.

In 2012, Flavour released his third album “Blessed”. The album was produced and released under his record label 2Nite Entertainment in collaboration with iROCKING LTD.

In 2014, he released his fourth album “Thankful”. The album featured Chidinma, Wande Coal and host of other Nigerian musicians.

In 2017, “Ijele- The Traveler”, Flavours fifth album was released. The album had 17 tracks and featured popular Nigerian musicians and a blind Liberian fan Semah.

In 2018, he featured Yemi Alade in his hit single “Crazy Love”. Later the same year he featured Umu Obiligbo in the song Awele.

Flavour has worked alongside popular Nigerian and African musicians including Tiwa Savage, Kcee, Phyno, Chidinma P-Square, Fally Ipupa, Yemi Alade, Zoro Masterkraft, Mr Raw, Tekno and many others.

In December 2020, Flavour released his sixth music album “Flavour of Africa”. The album had 16 tracks and featured Fally Ipupa, Tekno, Odumeje, Phyno and many others.

Awards and Nominations

Flavour won the Best Collabo in the Hip Hop World Awards in 2011.

In 2012, Flavour won the Best R&B Video in the Channel O Music Video Awards and the Best Indigenous Artist/Group in the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

He won the Best Collabo alongside Sound Sultan in the 2012 Headies awards.

Flavour won the Video of the Year, Best High Life Video, Best Indigenous Concept and Best use of costumes in the 2013 Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA). He won the Best Collabo of the Year alongside Kcee at the City People Entertainment Awards in 2013.

In 2014, Flavour won the Best Traditional Artist and Best Video of the Year in the 2014 African Muzik Magazine Awards. He also won the Video of the Year in the 2014 City People Entertainment Awards.

He also won the Best Live Act in the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards.

Controversies

In 2012, Flavour was involved in a legal battle with Ghanaian duo Wutah. They accused Flavour of song theft in the Kwarikwa music single. Flavour was accused of stealing rhythm, chorus, and tempo.

Flavour is not yet married. However, he has a daughter from Sandra Okagbue and the second from Anna Banner. Flavour also adopted visually-impaired young Liberian named Semah G. Weifur.
